About Dionna

Dionna McMillian is a Brooklyn based writer and director who holds a M.F.A in Film and Electronic Media from American University. She has worked as a director, assistant director and editor on numerous projects. Her experience includes working on feature length independent films, broadcast television, documentaries, and web series.

Dionna loves all genres of filmmaking, but often finds herself drawn to comedy when writing and directing her own work. Her style of directing can be described as punchy and visually colorful. She explores unique staging, dynamic cuts and utilizes the physical space of a location to help sell the jokes and to enhance the story.

She wrote and directed the short comedy "Love, New York"–starring Sydney Morton, which has been accepted into 11 film festivals to date. When she is not developing her upcoming episodic series or writing her feature film, she serves as the Chair of Post-Production at New York Film Academy. There she seeks to infuse her students with the same passion for the craft of filmmaking that she possesses.
